What is the history of the company that makes Versace Sunglasses?
Versace’s website – Versace Sunglasses
It is a legend that goes back a long way to when Gianni Versace began his fashion house in 1978. The Versace (pronounced Ver-Sar-che) Group has an Italian parent company called Gianni Versace S.p.A which designs then markets then distributes luxury clothing, fragrances, accessories, makeup and home furnishings under a group of brands such as Versace, Versace Jeans Couture, Versace Sport, Versus, Versace Classic V2, Versace Intensive, Pallazzo Versace and Versace Young.
Nowadays the style department at Versace is the employer of a group of exceptional stylists and designers working in teams that are dedicated specifically to each of the individual lines. The teams operate now under the close guidance and supervision of the Creative Director of the Versace Group Donatella Versace. All of the Versace products for instance are crafted by manufacturers who have been carefully selected to ensure the highest quality. There is a network of 240 exclusive boutiques distributing Versace collections in addition to more than 150 spaces dedicated to the line in the major department stores and airport duty-free areas in addition to quite a few multi-brand boutiques in more than 60 countries.
Today there are 1,500 employees in the Versace Group and indirect labour has been provided for more than 5,000 people over the world. They have a solid international presence with good sales and earnings figures.
After the untimely death of Gianni Versace in Miami in 1997 (you may remember the pictures of Princess Diana comforting Elton John at his funeral), Donatella Versace took over the Creative portion of the Versace Group. Gianni’s younger sister, Donatella was born in 1959 in Calabria in Italy. She earned a languages degree at the University of Florence whilst assisting Gianni in supervising the photographic campaigns instrumental in defining the advertising style of Versace that is so well known now around the world. Having always been consulted by Gianni when he made important decisions, Donatella moved into design of accessories, and created Versace Young, which is the children’s line of Versace. When the cutting-edge brand for fashion pioneers was created, called Versus, Donatella was named Head Designer.
Donatella carried on Gianni’s love for the arts through her love for current music. Gianni loved opera, theatre and ballet and now Madonna, Sting, Courtney Love and Bon Jovi have been representing Versace in memorable advertising campaigns. This has taken Versace into the millennium, finding a way to mesh heritage and innovation to retain both the subversiveness of the brand and its elegance as well.
This combination is well reflected in Versace sunglasses, combining innovative design with traditional elegance.
